WORKSHOPS IN (CZECH) BOHEMIA
with
OLINKA BROADFOOT, sculptor
This is an invitation to join me for a unique sculpture workshop this Fall in Prague, Czech Republic. You can meet and work with other sculptors from various backgrounds, with an opportunity to trade ideas and develop or enhance your techniques. Language is not a problem: Czech is my native language and I will serve as translator.
Some of the work (of your own choosing) can be shown at a gallery connected to the Jan Deyl Music Conservatory for Blind Children in Malá Strana (near Prague Castle and Charles Bridge) with the intent to auction off this work to benefit the school. You will also be encouraged to produce smaller pieces for yourself, which of course, you may keep.
The program will be offered for a minimum two-week session between September 1st and October 31st, 2011. The tuition is USD 950- per week, which includes materials, firing, and transportation to and from Prague Airport. Workshops will be held in a small village near medieval Slaný, hometown of my former mentor and renowned University of Oregon professor Jan Zach (1914–1986), slightly northwest of Prague.
Part of our time in Prague will be spent at a working TONDACH brick factory near Plzen, home of the famous Czech beer.
Accommodations, though not provided, can be reserved for a nearby bed & breakfast or hotel (a list of suggestions will be provided). Traditional lunches – for example, smažený sýr, knedlo vepřo zelí, lokša, halušky, pirohy (vegetarian by request) – and beverages will be included each day of the actual workshop, with an exact itinerary to be determined.
Additionally, I will take participants on an excursion to historical places outside of Prague (e.g., chateaux, castles, or other medieval sites), which we can discuss/decide together at that time.
Payment is due in full by August 1, 2011. Cancellations are accepted until August 15th, 2011, with tuition refunded minus a $100 handling fee.

“When I have found something to express, I have done it without thinking of the past or the future…I have never made trials or experiments….Whenever I had something to say I have said it in the manner in which I felt it ought to be said. Different motives inevitably require different methods of expression”. Picasso.
